Where now stands the Ducareccia Restaurant and Il Piccolo Castello Hotel, in the centuries between 1200 and 1500, there were the soldiers camp who guarded the crossroads that the Castle of Monteriggioni dominated. Until now the legend of ‘Ducareccia’ rumors among the people, it tells about a female figure who lived in the camp protecting, with her magic act, the soldier safety with rites and amulets. Ducareccia distibuted spring water (now Fountain) controlling its purity, she took care of vegetable gardens by cultivating medical herbs. She also had the job of supervising the food by assessing its quality.

Many of the old recipes that our restaurant offers, caring of local traditions, derive from its experience, preserving unchanged the search for authenticity. Anyone who decide to stop for sharing with us food and rest, will rediscover the “Ducareccia” magic art and will be like taking part in an ancient rite that may let you feel more secure in everyday’s battles. During the summertime we organize outdoor dining in the "Castle".
